This is our news page, the most regularly updated section of the site, and written by Wdi. Aim to come back here as often as you can :). We aim to include anything of topical or current worth, and event information - such as bash reports. Oh, and don't forget to look at everything else on the site - you could even write to us if you have time...

Mobile bash! Success! Street party!

Karya the mage was elected as the bash general by a majority vote and did very well indeed (it was her first time :) )! Karya put so much effort into the organisation of the bash that by the closing fifty minutes her obituary was still empty. She seemed to enjoy playing the general and so make take the place of popular choice over Fleet... Most of the mobiles had been slaughtered as we passed the thirty minutes remaining mark, a gang of surly dwarfs made up the bulk of the rest. Except, well, after the dwarfs were put to rest it came to light that one more mobile was still alive. Of course, such a situation sends the magic-users of The Land into a frenzy of WHERE spell spinning - a firefly and a ram were found. The firefly was in a pouch, in a purse, in a cupboard and the so-called 'ram' was in the hands of Thwomp the evil necromancer. "But the survivor count was 1!"

Karya herself quickly put the firefly to rest lifting the evil from The Land and giving the players their bash bonus points. Thwomp was left holding the ram. A ram, that was not a mobile...

Many of the wizzes were present (and visible) during the competition, including Turrican. Oh dear: I forgot to ask him if wiz life has changed him yet. Damn.

Uploading this weeks charts, I noticed the apperance of Skunk at number five! Where has the rascal been?... Time to remove his name from the recently added 'Whatever happened to ?...' list (found in The MUD2 Section), I should think. :)

Tuesday 25th August 1998

TURRICAN MAKES WIZ!

Oh my god, oh gosh...

At around 7:30 on Monday Turrican the mage passed the barrier between mortal magic and real magic... I dare not say anything more, in case he terminates my existence on a whim.

ANTMAN/CAT SUB-SPACIAL ANOMALY APPEARS OVER WIREPLAY NEWS

Both Antman the mage and Cat the cheshire wizard have been getting more than their fair share of 'coverage' on the Wireplay UK website news page. Cat's 'M8' poem is mentioned, along with Antman's PK development programme evaluation. Both of these pieces appear on Cat's news page (http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~europe/mudnews.html). There was also this:

"Catch up on the latest rumours and scandal in the murky world of MUD II with Antman's website. "

But, oooh, no, no, no! Antman doesn't have a website! According to Wireplay he does; they even know the address. It's apparently http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~europe/mudnews.html. Now if that isn't interesting, I don't know what is.

CAT THE WIZARD IN DARING LITERARY GENIUS SHOCKER

Cat has shocked the world today with the publication of his hard-hitting gritty real-life poem, 'M8'. This is the first time a MUD2 Wireplay player has publicly revealed their dislike for this strange marriage of letter and number. Rumours flying around are that Cat can 'say what he likes' because 'he's a wizard, you know' but are as yet remaining unconfirmed. Critics are currently unsure of how accurate the actual words of the piece are - Cat the wizard was recently labelled 'unfair' and 'a damn crazy fool' by the Government for using his web site media empire as a tool for spreading untrue anti-Wdi propaganda.

It is interesting to note that Richard the arch-wizard was recently considering adding the term 'M8' to the official MUDspeke dictionary.

M8, by Cat, can be found at this address: http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~europe/mudnews.html

Friday 21st August 1998

Amazingly, we won yesterday's bash, and in excellent time too - the last remaining mobiles were exterminated with more than twenty five minutes on the reset clock. You may be interested to know that Wdi was there, but did not mess with the spider, and that Fleet was not there (again), leaving the position of bash general open to another player; Droo became the general by a high number of votes. There were also cries of, um, 'kill the mages' during the bash by those who believed that the mages were doing little more than hiding and waiting for the bonus. Ooh, I'll get some stick for saying that :)... The masses also attempted a mortal reset (but failed :) )! Cat the wizard obviously had a big problem with this, and chose to move the reset button to the crows nest of the galleon. He's so mean.

The all-new only slightly sneaky Cat the cheshire wizard has added even more to his web site, including some strange feline, um, words on a friend of Cat's (Mankoid and Beastly appear to be involved) and a humorous confession/explanation by Antman of his PK antics. An excerpt: "After that I realised it would be impossible to kill without killing my friends. So I thought what the hell I will just kill everyone." Antman, you make us sick :).

Muddy does try to cover every story, you know. We really do. Watch this:

Hail, new arch
Kyric, running Sorc war anyway, free HMV store for winner.
Mage curfew upsets players, mostly mages.
PK debate continues - is Lexley unstoppable?
Keep fixed, spectre forced to eat donuts.
Wdi discovers true meaning of word 'wraith'.
Cerbrus returns from Quake outing shock.
Tarl enters tearoom, drinks cold tea.
Azzuri top of top ten again, sponsorship considered.
Vella still leader of BOPS, Rhye not-quite-so leader.
Vulnax suggests Spectakular, highlife loses bottle.
Bottle found - was stolen by Madhatter.
Joey creates new persona, giggling heard behind doors.
New mages: Lexley and Mathilda...

Monday 17th August 1998

RUMOURS, LIES, AND OBVIOUS SCANDAL...

Um, well, you know how it is...
Cat the ever so sneaky wizard has updated his
news page. You may want to take a look, the page in question being so well written and such, but then again, you may not want to read it. In fact, I reccomend that you don't. :) You know what wizards are like for making stuff up...

Friday 14th August 1998

Yesterday's event, Vulnax, was a mobile bash. Richard the arch-wizard appeared visible towards the end of the reset prior to the competition, yet during the bash there were no wizards visible. It was also worth noting that no bash general was elected (read: Fleet wasn't playing). Despite this the twenty or so mortals on played an excellent bash, for the most part unhampered by any player killers. In fact, the survivors count was down to less than nine with forty minutes remaining, and some fine swordplay swiftly brought this number down by five in less than fifteen minutes (that's three left with twenty five minutes to go, fact fans). The three remaining mobiles were the skeleton0, the spider, and the hedgehog. The skeleton was put to rest by a small crack team of super-powered parachuting commando warlocks and Thwomp was holding the hedgehog captive in a container because he's like that :-). This led to numerous attempted novicing of him by the annoyed masses.

This left the spider as the final mobile. Alas, when the teams got to the ruin they found that the cord had been burnt away by some moronic idiot... The musers of the hand banded together in one massive summoning attempt to teleport the spider from its layer, but unfortunately with no success. It appears that the spider cannot be summoned from its lair.

The auto-reset was seven minutes in length, but this did not help, and we lost. Again.

In other news (<G>), the house TUSC merged with the house BOPS during the bash creating the new uber-house BOPS, with Vella as the new leader and Rhye as the senior captain. What will Boggy say when he gets back from his holidays?...

Friday 7th August 1998

It's interesting to note that Fleet was again promoted to bash general, that we again had over fifteen players online, yet that we still failed - badly. The bash was alost abandoned by the players; many just gave up completley. So what was the problem?
Complacency? Poor organisation? Under-skilled players?
Could the failure have anything to do with the new Houses? <G>

It's very possibly that the bash failed due to incredible number of player casualties - did you SEE that obituary list?! The player killers were out hunting, and the majority of the players allowed them to. Grief was highlighted as a possible '%7*$'. The apes also came out to play; Soulfly tried taking them all on at once! Cat the wizard said this was "silly'.

Because of this competition, I've now added a new Mobile Bashes page to the Charts Section, specifically to see how badly Fleet does in the future...

...

Only joking, Funky one!

Wednesday 5th August 1998

Who says that Cat never writes anything for his site?

He recently posted an updated news page, mostly commentary on the new Houses. It's a very interesting read - you should take a look. (I didn't know nine houses existed!)
Oh, and in my defense, I didn't arrange the assasination of Boggy as I didn't have time...

Monday 3rd August 1998

I've mentioned before that it seems not everyone has the Microsoft Tahoma TrueType font available on their terminal, so here it is, zipped and sitting cosy with its big bold brother font. Muddy is designed to be read using this font; it looks a lot better than with Times New Roman!

To install the fonts with Windows 95, unzip the files to a temporary directory and choose 'Install New Font...' from the File menu of the Fonts folder. Then enter the path of the directory you unzipped the fonts to, select both Tahoma fonts from the list, and hit OK. Ta-da!

Friday 31st July 1998

ELF QUEST

Twas an interesting quest, yesterday.

I mean, did we win or did we lose? What was Fleet doing with all that treasure (AND the princess)? Why did some players insist on turning the event into an impossible mobile bash? Why wouldn't Lopsy give us a hint? <G> Why did Havoc think he stood a chance against five armed players? Why were the dwarfen royalty just their cheery old selves? Where was Joey?

It seems we still have a long way to go to solve the elf quest...

Also to note was Kyric's mention of a forthcoming (ie. during the next fortnight) Sorcerer War! Go and sharpen your blades, players (or, in the case of Fleet, dust the airing cupboard).

Tuesday 28th July 1998

The Powers That Be finally got around to releasing a new Top Ten for Wireplay MUD2. Hey, an excellent opportunity to put our latest plan into action!

Introducing the all-new revamped Charts Section!
Ta-da...

There's now an archive and a different placement system for the Top Tens along with charts and statistics for general competitions etc. Of course, if you have any comments or suggestions on this or on anything else to do with the site don't hesitate to write to us.

Monday 27th July 1998

A few words from Gdn :

Well folks, today was my actual birthday, but last Thursday, the 23rd, there was a delightful party in the honour of Topcat and I, as Topcat also had his birthday in the same week.
At 8:00 pm, we were whisked off to the party room for cake and champagne (and silver spoons) by the plenty, while DJ Fleet blasted out some funky tunes.
The scheduled Elf Quest for 9:00 unfortunately, never came to pass as the whole game crashed as the reset began, rendering the game un-joinable. Good news though, the Elf Quest is rescheduled for this Thursday at 9:00 pm. Be there, or miss the available points and a whole lot of fun.

On a sadder note, the day after the party, I went on to MUD for a quick game seeing as though I missed the Elf Quest because of the crash. Fifty minutes into my playing, I recieved a message from distressed BOPS members, and being a newly-promoted BOPS captain, I thought it my duty to do my best to help. My biggest mistake of the month. I arrived at the rapids to find 4 other members of BOPS attacking the PKer, Pigeon the hero. 'A cinch' I thought and joined in the attack. Not paying the fight much attention, believing there wasn't a chance in hell we could lose, I failed to notice Pigeon slip 2 wafers into his beak. So there I was on 9 stamina, shaking like a mad thing whilst trying to type in 'flee.qq' as fast as I could. I got as far as touching the enter key when 'not updating persona' punched me in the face.
Oh well, it had to happen sometime I suppose... The thing that miffed me off most was the fact that no sooner than I was killed (changing Pigeon from hero to champion), the other BOPS members utterly destroyed him. What a waste of points for the both of us.

+<| :o (

Monday 20th July 1998

Boggy would like me to inform you all of the latest win for BOPS!
In a victorious battle, Horang the mage, following five flees from his attackers was chased around The Land and finally killed by a killer killer BOPS team organised by Boggy and Amazon.

If you don't already know, BOPS is the biggest Wireplay MUD2 House and is there for any players who wish to fight against the evils of player killing. Strangely enough, this seems to be a lot of players - BOPS currently has over forty five members. :)

If you'd like to join, type JOIN BOPS whilst any of the following captains of the House are around: Boggy, Antman, Titanium, Wdi, Paranor, or Amazon.

Saturday 18th July 1998

Apologies for the downtime, Xoom seem to have 'upgraded' their servers again...

The mobile bash, yes. It was... creatively organised.
As usual, a bash general was voted for by the players. Normally the honour of being voted bash general goes to the most experienced, most intelligent, most powerful mortal player in the game. On Thursday.it went to Joey... Apparently, this was meant to be a joke - Joey wasn't supposed to get the position. Um, I apologise again.. :)

There was a short pause, and the shouting began - nobody, of course, wanted Joey to run the bash. Hail the witch suggested that, should Joey abdicate, the player with the most kills 'so far' would be named bash general. So, Ged took the position.

Now, I was very tired, and following Ged's promotion everything went a little pear-shaped. I'll try to explain from what I recall happened...

Ged took the position but didn't want it, suggesting that Fleet should take his place. Fleet became general and started giving orders, as she had been doing from the begining. Suddenly, Azzuri became general and also started giving orders. Undeterred, Fleet 'promoted' herself to the 'people's general' or something and continued to give orders, whilst Azurri did the same despite her. Well, that might not sound all that strange but it was, I can assure you... My head was hurting; I went off to kill the basilisk instead.

Azzuri later died to the shark, and was very unhappy for a long time. Joey was attacked, fled, and was never seen again. Fleet didn't die, and now runs a boar colony in southern Australia.

Friday 10th July 1998

So, the question is, who crashed the bash?

With approximately thirty five minutes remaining a reset occured. Not an auto-reset, not a mortal-reset or a wiz-reset but just a reset. Meaning the game crashed. And we were doing so well! So well, in fact, that Umbrarg the wizard decided to give us all 1000 pts each, whilst Kyric the arch-wizard look on commenting, "If it had been me, I would have told you all to go to hell." Um, that's nice... :)

Gdn was the first bash general of the night, promoting Wdi, Joey, Fleet and Titanium to deputy bash general. Gdn later resigned pleading, um, non-involvement syndrome and Titanium was promoted to bash general - Fleet, by the way, didn't turn up anyway and so, link link, didn't turn up to Vella's birthday party. It was fun, it really was.

Oh yeah, Boggy's excellent House, BOPS (The Brotherhood of Players), now has almost thirty members. To join type 'JOIN BOPS' when any of the following captains of the club are around: Boggy, Antman, Titanium, Wdi - interestingly placed in rank order.

Falco says, "When at mage, site rapids."

Thursday 9th July 1998

If you like Joey, you need to join this :

Joey's Fan Club!

Come on, join in the fun!

Wednesday 8th July 1998

Boggy has finally decided on a name for his house.

The Brotherhood of Players!

Well, take it or leave it. Actually, take it - I know the guy who made it up :). As of yet, there have been a few houses, Sun's for example, but none of us have really cared. Now Boggy's has been created it won't be long before the queue to join becomes very long. Remember, excluding Dunbad, Boggy is the only non-PK mage, so his house is the one to join. No PKs allowed, of course. It might be amusing to let Joey in, though. <G>

It has come to my attention (thanks, among other things, to a large screenshot of our site in PC Gamer magazine!) that not everybody has the preferred font with which to view the site. Well, the font is a Microsoft designed one called Tahoma and it comes with Windows 95 Release B and probably Windows 98. The site looks a lot better compared using Tahoma instead of Times New Roman, it really does. I'm looking in to getting the font available as a download, but haven't found an exact address just yet. Until then, you could take a look at Microsoft's Typography pages.

Sorry for the long paragraph :). To compensate, a short yet powerful poem on the subject of Wireplay MUD2:

In MUD it can be rainy,
In MUD it can be snowy,
The player to kill is
None other than Agrazag.

Ha ha, and indeed, Ha. :)

Monday 6th July 1998

I know this is a little late, and if you missed it then, well, you missed it, but a MUDmeet took place on 27th Kune of this year and the photographs have been developed! Yet not by Gdn, surprise, surprise...

Until then, take a good look at Tobias' and Fodrules' photographs at http://www.decadent.demon.co.uk/ed98/ and http://www.duff.org/mudmeet/98/ respectively.

Friday 3rd July 1998

SORCERER WAR!

Hurray!
I mean, darn it! But enough of Wodow, you want to hear the facts.

Yesterday night a Sorcerer War took place, and players killed other players without being labelled as PKs. Oh joy! The Sorcerer war started earlier than the declared time, I think Kyric knew he needed ten minutes to explain the rules.. :)

In a Sorcerer War, players are given 12,800 points AND the ability to use magic by a magical sorcerisation process ('You have to be a wizard before you can do that!'). But as if that wasn't enough every player on this occasion was also given the oppurtunity to pick one item from a collection of powerful magical artefacts most of which bestowed mage level powers on the holder in addition to dispelling other player's casts. This, of course, took an eternity to happen because more than few fools picked up one of each item, all of one item, etc. etc...

And then, the participants were thrust into The Land and spent the first six hundred seconds dashing for kit and weapons and, soon afterwards, KILLS!

Players fought, fled, and died (if you were lucky) and a few of the more 'sensible' players hid. A few players steamed off into the lead, notably Keyser, Joey (playing as Abominatio), and Kochanski. A few other players took one too many hits, and ended up pointless and face down in the mu.. dirt. Unfortunately, just like the World Cup (nrrrr) the best don't win. At least, the originally best collection of player characters don't always succeed. Oh dear, I hope I haven't offended the winners...

1st. Crumpet
2nd. Lumphammer
3rd. Sabbakulca

These places were decided on points, as there were more than three players left when the reset occured.

Crumpet took his lovely sorcerer persona away as prize, Lumphammer got four icons and Subbakulca got a coronet.

I got nothing, bah humbug.

Monday 29th June 1998

For Fleet :

Friday 26th June 1998

As ever (hopefully), we were able to despatch of the the mobiles of the land with many minutes to spare. Enough spare to attempt, successfully attempt I should say, a mortal reset for an extra 2,200 points! That puts the general bash bonus on around 5,250 points! Speaking of generals, Fleet was happily voted to be the bash one and led us to victory once again...

Amazingly, Richard the arch-wizard was around and visible during the bash!
He again commented that we were getting good, perhaps too good, at bashes and that the mortal reset wasn't meant to have been sucessful.
"You're meant to be a disorganised rabble!"

If you'd like to write to Fleet and ask her something useful/trivial/annyoing/funky send your mail here!

Saturday 20th June 1998

Meat has very kindly sumbmitted a story of his time as a player when Wireplay MUD2 began - it's quite interesting to read and it can be found in The MUD2 Section.

Friday 19th June 1998

Oh dear, oh dear.. Fleet the funky warlock is becoming very unhappy due to the fact that she has not recieved a single letter for her agony/advice column. Now my friends, that's because I forgot to ask people to send them :).. So, if you have any queries (they don't need to be serious requests) at all MUDmail them to Fleet, or send them to us. Your agony is much appreciated.

These week's bash report comes from none other than Gdn! I can't believe it myself - he really did write something!

"This Thursday's bash was of the type where we all get together and WORK (not one of the usual " 2 mins to go and 57 mobiles still alive" kind of bash). We completed the bash in almost record timing and even had enough time left at the end of the reset (after several hundred cheers filling up our screens with garbage) for a mortal-reset, which, had it had been pulled off, all participants would have gained an extra 3000. Sadly, one or two mortal-reset illiterate people didn't know how to press the button :(
The bash was expertly (if not albeit too bossily) generaled by our own funky agony aunt, Fleet. Fleet was nice enough to promote me to deputy general along with some others I didn't take notice of :)

Good goin' folks. See you all next week."

And another thing - a number of players have updated their player profiles, so you may want to take a look at some again.

Wednesday 17th June 1998

Lot's to tell today :). Starting with...

SORC WAR PRACTICE SESSION

If you didn't play yesterday, then you missed out on a preview for a great new style of Sorcerer war (incidentally, Richard is adding the term 'Sorc war' to the latest version of the MUDSpeke dictionary). As with a normal Sorcerer war the participants started with novice personae who were sorcerised, ie. given 12,800 pts and magic. The newly sorcerised personae then talked constantly while Lopsy tried to explain the rules. No change there, then.

So what's the twist? Well, each player was given the choice of picking a magical artefact which endowed various warlock and mage level spells on them. This REALLY changed the style of play. Well, actually it didn't too much because many players had items that were stopping all forms of magic directed at them - this power didn't last forever though. However, instead of the usual hack and slay of the first five minutes players ran around on their own (or in pairs :) ) trying out their new toys...

This was only a practice for a future event (more about that in a moment), so there were no prizes. Still, the last three players remaining were :
1. Sting (who was this?!)
2. Stevv (and who was this?)
3. Wodow (um, I know who this was)

Sting managed to kill Stevv and Wodow with his clever usage of the SUMMON spell and so won outright.
Lopsy tells us that there is a, um, 'non-practice Sorcerer war' on 2nd July. In fact there are to be quite a few events during July, apparently. Which brings me nicely on to...

ELF QUEST UPDATE

Yes, Kyric's quest is almost ready, "almost ready for it's first event slot", in fact.
"The elves are preparing their best attack yet on the dwarfen realm,
and are very hopeful to win back their realm", he told us.
(For the
full story see Cat the wizard's site)

Apparently, the elf quest is "designed for new players" Indeed... But! "There's lots and lots to score from it, even for experienced players". Tonnes, in fact. So count me in, I need every point I can get :)

Up to now nobody has got even close to completing the quest - most players have previously treated the quest as a bash, and have consequently run around chopping (with an axe, of course) every elf in their path, without really paying attention to what the messenger has to say...

Gdn was unavailable to comment.

Friday 12th June 1998

My word, it was a strange bash last night.
At one point the mobiles outnumbered the number of minutes remaining by about ten, and soon afterwards we had twenty minutes to kill just, um, 5! Talker was the general, and seemed to be appointing deputy generals during the bash - an idea proposed by a fair number of players. Incidentally, the griffin and one of the sharks were the last mobiles to be killed. "The griffin?", I hear you cry. Well, it had something to do with Droo...

And, continuing with the 'My word' theme, we've recently got a whole load of new player profiles. Take a look, if you will, they're quite interesting. And add one for yourself - go on, you know you want too etc... :)

Sunday 7th June 1998

Death comes to all those who wait, it seems.

I'm told that with each death a player learns something new.
So what have I got to show for 75k?
Well, I now know that fleeing is not a fool-proof way to get away, and that trust is not all it's cracked up to be. Oh, and the most successful player killiers are the lucky, opportunistic ones

Re-attacks seem to be coming into mainstream fashion...

Oh, and I've finally added the first thing to The MUD2 Section.

Friday 5th June 1998

Yesterday's mobile bash was a shambles! - the view of many a player who was playing last night. Generalised by Sorehead, the bash was marred by a fair amount of PK action... Ok, more than a fair amount : 'Is this a mobile bash or a player bash?', said Boggy... Among the PK culprits were Havoc the opportunistic superhero (or there abouts <G>), Joey the sorcerer ... nrrrrr, and Sinbad the um... well, he was below necromancer :).

But the most upsetting PK of all was Thwomp, an experienced PK as we all know, but with a secret known by only a few. Many a player was seen wandering sorrowfully around The Land following Thwomp's news... Of course, only a few knew of Thwomp's true identity (Khaos, if you haven't already heard), but shocking to us all was his choice of dropping Khaos for good! Sadly, another case of Good gone Bad...

Although I was going to include a rumours section, it hasn't yet been completed. Guess who I delegated that task to then? Clue : starts with G, ends with N and includes the letter followed by E.
Anyway, I have heard myself rumours of a new guild, risen from an ancient idea long forgotten. A group of power, not of ideals. Or something similar, at least. I'm not exactly sure who told me that, but it sounds interesting, eh players?

Sunday 31st May 1998

Junior Masterchef won by Serena!
(um, the small one)

And just a small reminder... Hopefully soon we'll be able to start adding a few extra interesting articles and the like, hopefully contributed by players (if I can convince them to get back to me, and if I can remember who I've already asked). If you have any ideas at all yourself email us - please do!

And if you're visiting and would like to leave us a message, the discussion forum is open to all :).
And it's just as good as a guestbook...

Cat the wizard has added an animated gif to his site as an entrance, making the new URL http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~europe/mud2.html. It's rather funky, by the way!

Thursday 28th May 1998

News just in, literally :

EDINBURGH MUDMEET 1998

A MUDmeet is to be held on Saturday, 27 June 1998 in Edinburgh. The meet
will commence at 2pm in Deacon Brodie's Tavern, on the Royal Mile. Take the
opportunity to visit Edinburgh, meet some of your fellow mortals and
wizzes, tell tall stories about The Land and generally have a good time!
Details are available on-line at
http://www.decadent.demon.co.uk/ed98/.

Todays mobile bash was a success, but only just, due to the one strange nature of the players involved.
You see, most of them are deranged, I myself (Wdi) was voted to be General; can you believe it? So, we had a bash of semi-chaos with a few kills here and there and a mouse left till the end. The auto-reset was not reached before the last mobile was despatched, so maybe I didn't do too badly :)

Interestingly, Cat introduced a rule specially for the bash prohibiting player killing of personae lower than the leve 10 (warlock, legend etc). There were only two players of this level, Fleet and myself, which left me running around talking to 10 (read 2) people at once whilst Fleet the funky warlock hid in the airing cupboard...
(The skeleton, spider, and some sealife were the last to die.)

Since I was general, some players of note in the bash:

Fleet, for her acheivements in gross cowardice
Assin, for his condescending speeches
Joey and Oblivion, for killing despite the sanction
Quaint, for helping with the sharks..

And speaking about points, as I think I may have been (um...), did you know that we include the official Wireplay MUD2 top ten on our site? It's essentially the top ten most valuable players in the land <G> (it's a chart of the top ten personae with the highest points total in the game , and therefore value), so it's very useful if you like to 'ooh!' and 'aahh!' at the right people, or if you're just looking for a quick 40,000 point boost.

Monday 25th May 1998

Thanks to Tchai the arch-wizard for asking Wireplay to link to us on their news page!
Whoever writes the news page seems to like us :)

I'd just like to mention that we've had the offers of contribution to the site from quite a few players now, so if you yourself have anything that you'd like to add, please mail us!

Friday 22nd May 1998

Yesterday's mobile bash was again a complete success, headed by Bloke the necromancer as the bash general. It was also the birthday of that funky fresh funkstress Fleet the necromancer. The last mobiles to die were the jellyfish and zombie7, which was trapped in the west tomb. It took a rather mysterious player, Garibaldi, to open to the tomb; Garibaldi insisted that everyone left the mausoleum before he spoke the correct solution

Following the bash, a small birthday party for Fleet was held in the Woodsman's hut… Throughout the entire bash Dunbad had been forcing Assin, leader of the
APK Guild, to kill players (mainly lowlifes), possibly to 'expose' him as a PK. However, during the festivities in the hut Dunbad successfully forced Assin to "kill all"! Blows from the players he was forced to attack quickly reduced his stamina to a critical level and, before he had chance to realise what was going on, he was killed!

Those listed on the obituary for killing Assin were:
Wdi, Vulnax, Yatsura,
Slain, Fleet (oh no!), Falco,
Gimble, Meek and Beanie.

Suffice to say, he was not a happy player. We spoke to Assin on the subject of his death.

We asked Cat the Wizard why the lotus plants have been banned from the game.
"the lotuses give way too much stam.", he said <G>
Apparently, the lotus plants are supposed to give a stamina increase of 10, not the full 100% stamina recovery that occurs. Is this a bug of some kind? It seems to be from Cat's observation.

Thanks to everyone who has visited our site; please come back in the future, there will be more to see and do, lots and lots to see and do ("Me and you, you and Me"). Sorry, was where I? Ah yes, the site. Remember, if you have any ideas or anything to say at all email us at Muddy@antisocial.com.

Apparently, the lotus plants have been removed from the game. I'm currently not sure quite why, something to do with that nasty PK Agrazag. Has he been doing terrible evil with them? Or is it just how my good friend Meek said, and 'not fair on newbies' ?

Assin and Slain will be soon making their own pages for the respective guilds, due to their intense beliefs that they are the masters of the language known as HTML. Let's see what they come up with, eh?

Sunday 17th May 1998 - An Introduction to Muddy

After months of planning, haggling, re-design, war, famine, pestilence and death (the latter being all too common on MUD) we release, for general viewing, our MUD2 site! - Wdi and Gdn

Currently, MUD2 on Wireplay has no regularly updated newsletter (the closest to this is Cat the Wizard's page), yet it is a game which really suits having one. Just take a look at the newsletter for MUD2.com. So we thought that we could produce ourselves a site for MUD2 on Wireplay that would inform, educate and entertain, by charting the many unique occurrences that take place in our favourite multi-player world.

At least, that's what I originally wrote... without warning the mysterious Pagebot appeared and uploaded his own site, 'The player pages'. Apart from stealing my best ideas <g> he's done a good job. Take a look here, if you haven't already. It's rather nice.
Or you could stay here and take a look at our information, education, entertainment aims, or whatever...

We'll try to follow the latest news, if there is any to be followed - the biggest 'news' of the moment is, perhaps, of the war between the APK Guild and the PK Alliance; we also host their homepages :). We'll try to include some 'helpful' and 'informative' [?] information - as well as some general articles, we've started a player profile database (well, it's not a database quite yet..) and we may try to gather the collective intelligence of some of The Land's great citizens and organise the writing of a Mortal's 'guide' to MUD2 (MUD2 on Wireplay, at least). Until then, please wander over to our working discussion forum and take a look, or drop a message (it beats a guestbook...). And if we have time, we'll try to entertain.. or something - we're not quite sure about this one :).

Oh yes, and here's something you might find interesting : Interview with Dr. Richard Bartle, author of MUD2!

Sunday 17th May 1998 - The Real News

Enough of that self-promoting stuff, the small first news beckons:

A new edition of Admiral Bombow's Chronicles is up on the MUD2.COM site. If you haven't seen this before, it's the newsletter of the MUD2.COM incarnation of MUD2 and is a very interesting read. Check out the older editions for some ( ) hints and tips.

As you may have heard, a new version of MUD 4E is currently in the testing stage, and may be with us in the next month or so. One of the new features allows mages to create their own guilds, sorry, HOUSES... According to Sun the PK Alliance will possibly be the first house of Wireplay MUD2.

Last Thursday's mobile bash was a complete success, with Fleet as a very bossy, but, um, commanding general. As ever, a sea creature was the last mobile left alive, namely the jelly fish, and it was killed by Fleet herself! Also to die was Joey the champion (almost a guardian) by the hand of Benny and Wdi, revenge for killing Benny's warlock in the previous competition.
